Introducing Carlos Reyes
“Carlos, as a player and personality on stage, is a tour-de-force. His true passion for what he does really distinguishes him from most players. He exhibits a gift of talent that simply commands attention — but he also has a wonderful openness and ability to draw the audience to be part of the musical experience with him.”
–Roy Rogers, virtuoso blues slide guitarist
“’I’m there to create havoc,’ smiles Reyes. ‘I’m there to crush, kill and destroy.’ Not with violence, of course, but violins.”
–Vallejo Times-Herald
“Carlos Reyes isn’t just a hired gun. He’s a musical sniper.”

They should call it “the Carlos Reyes effect” – that quality of amazement audiences experience when Carlos launches into another of his deeply musical, exquisite solos – a delight so uniquely inspiring it deserves its own name.
Carlos Reyes is a harpist and violinist, recording artist, producer and engineer who has been breaking musical barriers since his first public performance at the age of five. The offspring of a nationally celebrated musician in Paraguay, Carlos learned to play the complicated 36-string native Paraguayan harp at an early age, and has since taken the instrument to new and ground-breaking levels.
Blessed with the musically-voracious appetite of a prodigy, Carlos has mastered many different instruments – guitar, bass, mandolin, keyboards, etc. – but he delivers his signature “one-two punch” with harp and violin, both on stage and in the recording studio.
His first album The Beauty of It All claimed a spot on Billboard’s Top-Ten Contemporary Jazz charts for over 15 weeks. A harp collaboration on Sugo Records, Harvest Moon, has received rave reviews since its release. Recent albums Children of the World and Sesto Senso were released in Europe to rave response on radio.
Carlos’s credentials as both featured talent and secret-weapon sideman are as remarkable as they are diverse, having backed or shared the stage with such artists as Chuck Mangione, Bill Evans, Clark Terry, Pat Travers, MC Hammer, Narada Michael Walden, Craig Chaquico, Arturo Sandoval, Gloria Estefan, The Crusaders, The Rippingtons, Bonnie Raitt, Roy Rogers, Norton Buffalo, Charlie Daniels, Wynona Judd, Clint Black, Willie Nelson, John Handy, the Doobie Brothers, rocker Steve Miller, and many more.
Now a sought-after international talent, Carlos represented Paraguay at the World’s Fair in Hanover Germany, where he was presented with a medal from the Vatican for his musical contributions. He’s played Italy’s Latinoamericando Festival, and a short documentary film of his performance at the world famous Ariston Theater in Torino aired throughout Europe. His tours have also taken him to Cuba, Asia and South America. Returning to the country of his birth, Carlos has started a program to provide musical instruments to school children.
We know you’ll enjoy your experience of “the Carlos Reyes effect” on this episode of Plugged In and Turned On in Paradise!
